Nigerian womans' right to reproductive autonomy
El derecho a la autonomía reproductiva en mujeres nigerianas
This paper examines African womens rights to bodily and reproductive
health, as stated in the International Conference on Population and
Development and Beijing's Women's Convention. A womans right to
reproductive autonomy is often impaired by her status in the Nigerian
society.
This paper offers a "women-centered" framework for understanding
these rights, which include, rights to life, freedom, health care and
information, and nondiscrimination in the allocation of resources of
health, and finally, rights to security of the female person. The
paper concludes by suggesting various ways to curb systemic
violations of the varied forms of women's rights in Africa.
